2016-12-08 18:40

On December 7, Chinese Ambassador Zou Xiaoli met in the cultural ministry Ms. Lydia Koniordou, newly-appointed Minister of Culture and Sports. The two sides exchanged views on promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Greece.

Ambassador Zou congratulated the minister on her appointment. Zou said that 2017 is the first year of the second decade of China-Greece comprehensive strategic partnership and has been designated Year of China-Greece Cultural Exchanges and Cultural Industry Cooperation. He expressed the hope that the two sides strengthen communication and coordination, give full play to the initiatives of central and local governments, institutions, businesses and private sectors of the two countries to tap the cooperation potential, jointly build a series of "brand" projects, promote the synchronous moving of the two wheels of economy and culture and push China-Greece relations to a higher level. China and Greece being representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations, to strengthen cultural exchanges and cultural industry cooperation between the two countries goes beyond bilateral scope and will exert far-reaching impact on increasing mutual understanding between China and Europe and between East and West and on safeguarding world peace and stability, Zou pointed out.

On her part, Minister Koniordou said that she was happy to meet Ambassador Zou and agreed on all he had said. The minister said that as actress and director, she was engaged in international cultural exchanges for many years. She visited China twice and had had cooperation with Chinese counterparts. She had begun to realize that Greece could well become a bridge or bond between Europe and China and linking West and East. Minister Koniordou promised that her ministry is ready to play a coordinating role to enhance communication and coordination with the Chinese side in order to make the Year of China-Greece Cultural Exchanges and Cultural Industry Cooperation a great success and a new highlight in the history of bilateral relations.
