When talking about the issue of the refugee crisis in Europe, President Xi stressed that the refugee crisis has caused worldwide attention. The root cause of the crisis is unbalanced development and regional instability. In addition to humanitarian assistance, what is more important is to effectively deal with the problems of poverty and social instability, and particularly the causes for conflicts of countries where the refugees come from. China believes that relevant countries in Europe can sand untied to handle this important challenge and solve relevant issues properly.

On his part, Prime Minister Tsipras said that Greece values its traditional friendship with China. The Greek people have friendly feelings towards the Chinese people and appreciate the valuable help that China has given Greece. It is a consistent stance of Greece that cooperation with China has strategic significance. Under the new circumstances, Greece is ready to enhance this relationship, upgrade economic and trade cooperation, and expand cooperation in agriculture, aviation, finance, investment, and the sea, and actively participate in cooperation under the framework of “the Belt and Road” Initiative. Greece agrees that to solve the problem of refugees in Europe, both the symptoms and the root causes should be addressed.
