On November 18, 2024, an exhibition entitled "Tang China – A Cosmopolitan Dynasty (7th-10th Century)" was inaugurated at France's Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts. Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron have respectively inscribed prefaces to the exhibition.

Xi Jinping noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. During his visit to France in May this year, China and France reached an agreement to hold an exhibition of Tang Dynasty cultural relics at France's Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts. Xi Jinping said he was glad to see that the exhibition entitled "Tang China – A Cosmopolitan Dynasty (7th-10th Century)" was inaugurated as scheduled, thanks to the joint efforts of cultural relics experts from the two countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the Tang Dynasty was one of the most prosperous dynasties in Chinese history, characterized by a prosperous economy, flourishing culture, intellectual inclusiveness, grand artistic achievements, and ethnic integration. The cultural influence of the Tang Dynasty extended across Asia and spread to Europe through the Silk Road. The Tang Dynasty's achievements in poetry, painting, and gold and silver ware are still widely acclaimed by people today. Xi Jinping expressed the belief that this exhibition will help the French and other European audiences gain a vivid understanding of the brilliant, confident and open atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty and experience the unique charm of Chinese civilization.

Xi Jinping pointed out that both the Chinese and French nations have a long history and splendid culture. The peoples of both countries have long admired and been drawn to each other, with a history of friendly exchanges that stretches back through the ages. The two sides should seek inspiration from history and culture, deepen exchanges and mutual learning in culture, and strengthen cooperation in cultural heritage preservation. Both should prosper individually and together, integrating historical emotions and contemporary spirits into China-France friendship, and making the China-France comprehensive strategic partnership more solid and vibrant.

President Emmanuel Macron stated that in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China, as well as the Year of Culture and Tourism, the Guimet National Museum of Asian Arts will host a grand exhibition of Tang Dynasty cultural relics. The Tang Dynasty holds a special place in the history of Chinese civilization, with its brilliant culture and incredible creative vitality. Through the Silk Road, the Tang Dynasty actively engaged in foreign exchanges, creating stunning artistic treasures. This historically significant exhibition once again highlights the vibrant cultural exchanges between France and China, which will continue to play an important role in the development of bilateral relations.

This exhibition, guided by China's National Cultural Heritage Administration and the French Ministry of Culture, showcases over 200 pieces or sets of exquisite cultural relics from 32 cultural and museum institutions in 10 provinces, provincial-level regions and cities in China.
