Xi Jinping Meets with Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba

On the afternoon of September 5, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping spoke highly of Nangolo Mbumba's active contribution to the complete success of the FOCAC Beijing Summit. He pointed out that the summit demonstrated the firm determination of China and Africa to jointly advance modernization. China is ready to work with Namibia and other African countries to fully implement various outcomes of the summit, promote common development and prosperity, and jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future.

Xi Jinping stressed that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) of Namibia are both long-ruling progressive parties. SWAPO has incorporated "building socialism with Namibian characteristics" into its party constitution. China is willing to work with Namibia to enhance friendly cooperation between the two countries and between the two parties, strengthen the exchange of experience in party and state governance, share development opportunities, and jointly advance the modernization process of their respective countries. The two sides should strengthen the synergy of development strategies and create new cooperation highlights in areas such as agriculture, clean energy, infrastructure, energy, minerals, and science and technology. China encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Namibia, and hopes that Namibia will continue to provide relevant convenience and support. China supports Namibia in its work as a co-facilitator of the UN Summit of the Future, and stands ready to strengthen multilateral strategic coordination with Namibia, continuously consolidate and increase the strength of the Global South, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Nangolo Mbumba said he was honored to be invited to China for the FOCAC Beijing Summit and received warm and friendly reception with Chinese characteristics and tradition. The two outcome documents adopted by the FOCAC Summit in the morning are conducive to consolidating the brotherly friendship between Africa and China and promoting Africa-China cooperation in various areas. In particular, a series of new measures announced by President Xi Jinping for Africa and China joining hands to advance modernization will guide the two sides to create a bright future of common development and prosperity and promote the building of an Africa-China community with a shared future. Namibia will earnestly and fully implement the outcomes of the summit, maintain close exchanges with China, and strengthen cooperation in areas such as agriculture, minerals, infrastructure, clean energy, and aerospace and aviation. Namibia firmly pursues the one-China policy, firmly supports China in safeguarding its territorial integrity, supports China in keeping the successful path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and supports a series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, which will help the world achieve peace and modernization.

During the summit, China and Namibia signed several bilateral cooperation documents covering the export of sheep and goat meat to China, development cooperation and other areas.
