Wang Huning Meets Respectively with Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe and Lesotho's Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane

On September 2, 2024, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Wang Huning met respectively in Beijing with Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe and Lesotho's Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, who are in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

When meeting with Faure Gnassingbe, Wang Huning said that President Xi Jinping had a fruitful meeting with Faure Gnassingbe. The two sides jointly decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. China is ready to work with Togo to earnestly implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, carry forward the traditional friendship, enhance strategic mutual trust, and promote China-Togo friendly cooperation to constantly yield more results. The National Committee of the CPPCC of China is ready to make positive contributions in this regard.

Faure Gnassingbe expressed his gladness to have a successful meeting with President Xi Jinping. He said that China always helps Africa with sincerity and is a trustworthy partner. The more successful China is, the more developed Africa will be. The friendship with China has become a consensus in Africa, and Africa-China relations have injected stability into the world. Togo will continue to firmly stand with China to uphold mutual trust and assistance, stick to unity and cooperation, and jointly promote peace, security, development and prosperity.

Shi Taifeng and Wang Dongfeng, among others, were present at the meeting.

When meeting with Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, Wang Huning said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Lesotho. President Xi Jinping and the leader of Lesotho jointly decided to elevate the bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership. China is ready to work with Lesotho to take the FOCAC Summit as an opportunity to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning on development philosophies and reform experience, and expand and deepen cooperation between the two countries in various fields, with a view to bring China-Lesotho and China-Africa relations to a new height. The National Committee of the CPPCC of China is ready to make positive contributions in this regard.

Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane highly appreciates China's efforts to promote the implementation of the outcomes of the FOCAC in Lesotho, which brings tangible benefits to the Lesotho people. He expressed the expectation to deepen practical cooperation, enhance inter-party exchanges, and learn from China's experience in state governance. Lesotho will firmly abide by the one-China principle, and believes that China will achieve its full reunification.
