On August 19, 2024, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam and Fiji's Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in Beijing, respectively. During his meeting with To Lam, Zhao Leji said that General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President Xi Jinping held fruitful talks with To Lam, charting the course for China-Viet Nam relations to develop going forward. Zhao Leji said that China is ready to work with Viet Nam to follow the strategic common understandings reached between the top leaders of the two parties and countries, promote in-depth and substantive progress in building a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future, and contribute to their respective socialist modernization. China's NPC is ready to work with the National Assembly of Viet Nam to implement the bilateral cooperation agreement, fully leverage the counterpart exchange mechanisms, promote multi-channel cooperation, and strengthen the exchange of experience in legislation and supervision, so as to provide a legal guarantee for the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future. Noting that Viet Nam has always considered developing relations with China as a strategic choice and top priority, To Lam said that Viet Nam is ready to deepen practical cooperation with China in various fields, maintain close exchange between legislative bodies, and further promote the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance. Zhang Qingwei attended the meeting. During his meeting with Sitiveni Rabuka, Zhao Leji noted that Fiji was the first Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, and hailed China-Fiji relations as an example of equal treatment and friendly cooperation between big and small countries. Zhao Leji said that China highly appreciates Fiji's longstanding commitment to the one-China principle and is ready to work with Fiji to deliver on the important common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, carry forward traditional friendship, consolidate political mutual trust, continuously expand all-round mutually beneficial cooperation, and push forward the China-Fiji comprehensive strategic partnership. China's NPC is ready to continue to strengthen exchanges at all levels with the Parliament of Fiji, and approve relevant legal documents in a timely manner, so as to provide legal guarantees for bilateral cooperation. Noting that the one-China principle is the cornerstone of Fiji-China relations, Rabuka said that Fiji highly appreciates the major initiatives and vision put forward by President Xi Jinping and is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with China in various fields such as trade and poverty reduction and deepen exchanges between legislative bodies to better benefit the two peoples. |
