On the afternoon of July 11, 2024, Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and Goodwill Ambassador of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, met in Beijing with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Winnie Byanyima, and Assistant Director-General of the WHO Jérôme Salomon.

Noting that eliminating HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis is of great significance to safeguarding human health and well-being and promoting global sustainable development, Peng Liyuan said that UNAIDS and WHO have carried out a lot of active and fruitful work in relevant fields. Peng Liyuan briefed them on China's practices and experience in the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, and expressed her readiness to continue to fulfill her duties as the Goodwill Ambassador and make more contributions to the global prevention and control of HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. She is confident that with the joint efforts of all parties, China's cooperation with UNAIDS and WHO will deliver more results.

Winnie Byanyima and Jérôme Salomon spoke highly of the positive achievements made by the Chinese government and people in the fight against tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS and the development of the health cause, and highly appreciated the outstanding contributions made by Peng Liyuan since she became the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. They expressed their readiness to further strengthen cooperation with China in relevant fields, and promote the continuous development and progress of the global health cause to the benefit of the people of all countries.
