On May 20, 2024, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber over the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a helicopter crash. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences and sincere sympathies to First Vice President Mokhber, President Raisi’s family and the Iranian government and people.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since taking office, President Raisi has made important contributions to safeguarding Iran’s security and stability and promoting national development and prosperity, and has made active efforts to consolidate and grow the Iran-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Xi said the unfortunate passing of President Raisi is a great loss to the Iranian people, and the Chinese people have also lost a good friend.
