Xi Jinping Attends Farewell Ceremony Hosted by President Aleksandar Vučić

On the afternoon of May 8, 2024 local time, as President Xi Jinping's state visit to Serbia drew to a close, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and his wife Tamara Vučić held a farewell ceremony for President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan at the Villa Peace in Belgrade.

It was a bright and clear day in early summer. President Aleksandar Vučić and his wife warmly received Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan at the Villa Peace.

The two heads of state and their spouses went to the balcony together to admire the cityscape of Belgrade. Aleksandar Vučić briefed Xi Jinping on the history of Belgrade and its recent development and changes, and thanked Chinese enterprises and workers for their important contributions to Serbia's infrastructure and urban development. Aleksandar Vučić said China has always been a great country. Recent years have seen rapid development of China. Its status and role as a major country have been highly respected, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable. In this process, President Xi Jinping's profound wisdom, strategic vision and excellent leadership have played an irreplaceable and important role. China not only is committed to its own development, but also helps Serbia and other countries develop together. Serbia is ready to continue to strengthen cooperation with China and work jointly to realize their respective dreams of national development.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China is a great nation with a splendid civilization of more than 5,000 years. His and the younger generations are all committed to striving for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Xi Jinping said, "We not only seek rejuvenation for the Chinese nation, but also seek happiness for the people worldwide. We not only pursue our own development, but also strive to achieve common development with other countries in the world. That is why I proposed the building of a community with a shared future for mankind." He also noted that a strong China is by no means a threat to the world. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with Serbia and all other countries to achieve common development.

Aleksandar Vučić once again thanked President Xi Jinping for paying a state visit to Serbia and expressed his reluctance to bid him goodbye. He said that Serbia has made unprecedented special arrangements to receive President Xi Jinping, and hoped that President Xi Jinping could feel the Serbian people's deep friendship for the Chinese people, especially the great respect for President Xi Jinping. Aleksandar Vučić also expressed appreciation for China’s valuable assistance to Serbia, and his hope of taking President Xi Jinping's historic visit as an opportunity to elevate Serbia-China relations to a new height.

Xi Jinping expressed gratitude to President Aleksandar Vučić and his wife for their warm hospitality. Xi Jinping said that although his visit was brief, it was very heartwarming and touching, and once again left him with an unforgettable impression. The visit was rich in content and significance, and was a complete success. He stressed that the ironclad friendship between China and Serbia enjoys strong popular support and he looks forward to continuing to maintain close communication and working together with President Aleksandar Vučić to write a new chapter in China-Serbia relations and steer bilateral relations and the building of a China-Serbia community with a shared future in the new era toward greater achievements to the benefit of the two peoples.

Following the event, President Aleksandar Vučić and his wife accompanied Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan to the airport by limousine, where they saw Xi Jinping off together with President of the Serbian National Assembly Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, and Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, among others. On the way to the airport, local people and overseas Chinese waved the national flags of China and Serbia on both sides of the streets, warmly congratulating President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan on the complete success of their visit to Serbia.

After Xi Jinping's special plane took off, two Serbian Air Force fighter jets took off to provide an escort.

In the evening, Xi Jinping left Serbia by special plane for Budapest, where he began his state visit to Hungary at the invitation of Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
