On September 22, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

Wang Yi said that since the meeting of the two foreign ministers in Bali, the two sides have made much progress in practical cooperation, sending positive signals and demonstrating the potential and resilience of China-Germany relations. Over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Germany have deepened mutual understanding, and steadily advanced all-round cooperation to the benefit of the two peoples. The two countries have no fundamental conflicts of interest. It is only natural for the two sides to step up communication for better understanding. It is important that the two sides make good preparations for high-level exchanges and intergovernmental consultations, comprehensively review cooperation in various fields, and map out plans for development of bilateral relations in the next 50 years. Under the current situation, it is of great significance for China and Germany to further deepen the all-round strategic partnership. China is ready to work together with Germany to play their due role as major countries and make joint contributions to peaceful development.

Baerbock said that Germany follows the one-China policy, and attaches great importance to maintaining high-level contacts, and exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China. China is an important global force, and Germany appreciates the ambitious emission reduction targets China has set for itself, and the exemplary role it has played in dealing with climate change. Germany is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as green transformation and innovative development to show leadership in achieving the temperature targets of the Paris Agreement and other areas, and jointly address global challenges.

The two sides exchanged views on the Ukraine issue. Wang Yi expounded on the "four shoulds" proposed by President Xi Jinping, noting that China is always committed to promoting talks for peace. The international community should work in concert for a ceasefire and end of the conflict to bring about peace at an early date, while properly managing emergency humanitarian issues and the negative spillover effects of the crisis.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
