Wang Yi: China Attaches Great Importance to and Cares about the Safety of Chinese Compatriots in Ukraine

On February 28, 2022, during a virtual meeting with ROK Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government attach great importance to and care about the safety of Chinese compatriots in Ukraine. Whether they are Chinese students studying in Ukraine, business personnel or overseas Chinese, they all embody the bridges and bonds promoting the friendly cooperation between China and Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China has activated the emergency coordination mechanism in a timely manner, maintained close communication with all parties, and will make full use of various channels and take all necessary measures to effectively guarantee the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions. China thanks all walks of life in Ukraine for their care for Chinese citizens in Ukraine, and expects the countries concerned to properly fulfill their international responsibilities and ensure the safety of civilians' lives and property.

Wang Yi said, China supports and encourages all diplomatic efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, and welcomes the launch of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China will continue to play a constructive role in easing the situation and making peace.
