On June 1, Chinese ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng attended the Signing Ceremony of the Handover of the 6th Term of China-Aided Bamboo & Rattan Weaving and Vegetable Planting Technological Assistance Project to Liberia and signed the handover certificate on behalf of the Chinese government with Liberian Foreign Minister H.E. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah. Hon. Isaac N. Doe, Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports and other Liberian government officials attended the event.

Ambassador Ren said that Liberia's rich bamboo and rattan resources should be fully utilized. Since the China-Aided Bamboo & Rattan Weaving and Vegetable Planting Technological Assistance Project to Liberia was launched in 2007, our technical team has been working in Liberia for more than one decade and trained hundreds of local people in bamboo and rattan weaving, vegetable planting, and biogas development and application. This is a model capacity-building project as it helps Liberian people to use Liberian resources to make Liberian products. The project has promoted the concept of "Made in Liberia, Made by Liberians and Made from Liberia". Ambassador Ren emphasized that agriculture is an important area in Liberia's economic development. China is willing to strengthen training in agriculture through such projects as bamboo and rattan weaving and vegetable planting technology cooperation, and encourage Chinese companies to expand investment in agriculture and fishery.

On behalf of H.E. President George Manneh Weah, Minister Kemayah thanked China for its outstanding contribution to the development of human resources in Liberia. He said that China's assistance in bamboo and rattan weaving and vegetable planting technology cooperation projects have further deepened the bond between the interests of the two countries and effectively promoted the reconstruction process in Liberia after the civil war. There is a large number of young people in Liberia, and Liberia welcomes more Chinese projects to take root in Liberia, create job opportunities for young people, help alleviate poverty and implement the "Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development" advocated by President Weah. Minister Kemayah also reiterated the Liberia's firm adherence to the one-China policy.
