Wang Yi Meets Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng of Malaysia

On August 1, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at request with Secretary-General of the Democratic Action Party, which is one of the political parties in Malaysia's ruling coalition, and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng of Malaysia, National Chairman of the Democratic Action Party Tan Kok Wai, and Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong of Malaysia.

Wang Yi expressed that China's friendly policies towards Malaysia make up an important part of China's policy of good-neighborliness and friendliness. The policy is oriented towards Malaysia and its people and is stable and long-term policies that will not change because of the changes of the political situation in Malaysia. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication with the new government of Malaysia, and take the opportunities of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's scheduled visit to China and the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative to further deepen and broaden practical cooperation in various areas, thus realizing mutual benefit and win-win results and at the same time, helping the Malaysian new government achieve its governance vision.

Lim Guan Eng fully agreed with Wang Yi's opinions. He noted that Malaysia and China have always been growing together and benefited from the development of each other. The new Malaysian government attaches great importance to the status and role of China and to the development of its relations with China. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad holds high expectation for his upcoming visit to China. It is believed that through joint efforts of both sides, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's visit to China is bound to be a complete success, and will elevate China-Malaysia cooperation to a new level.
