On February 9, 2018, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia in Beijing, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that the trend of de-globalization is growing and trade protectionism is on the rise at present. China and Indonesia, as important emerging economies, have the responsibility to strengthen cooperation, and work with other countries to jointly and firmly promote the building of regional integration and safeguard the global free trade system. Currently various parties pay high attention to whether the consensus on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) could be reached as soon as possible. China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Indonesia and relevant parties, strive to complete negotiations on the RCEP as soon as possible, and promote the process of regional integration and trade liberalization with concrete actions.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Indonesia once jointly advocated the ten principles of the Bandung Conference on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, which has become an important norm governing international relations followed by various countries. Putting forward the building of a new type of international relations, China hopes to explore a new path for state-to-state exchanges with the core connotations of mutual respect, fairness and justice, and win-win cooperation. This is in line with the ten principles of the Bandung Conference jointly advocated by China and Indonesia in that very year. The framework of Indo-Pacific region recently proposed by Indonesia emphasizes the principles of openness, transparency and inclusiveness, upholds the general direction of dialogue and cooperation, and conforms to the trend of the world development and progress. China agrees with this framework and believes that there will be no market for the Cold War mentality that goes against it.
