On the afternoon of November 1, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang held talks at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Najib Razak of Malaysia, who was on an official visit to China. Li Keqiang noted that China and Malaysia are good neighbors, good partners and good friends. The Chinese side is willing to, together with Malaysia, carry forward the traditional friendship forged over the last 40-odd years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, push forward mutual trust in politics, mutual benefit in economy and mutual learning in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and comply with the common wish of seeking unity, pursuing stability and promoting development in the region so as to elevate China-Malaysia relations to new highs, improve the level of good-neighborly and friendly cooperation as well as boost regional unity, stability, development and prosperity. Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Malaysia enjoy tremendous potential in deepening practical cooperation in various fields. China stands ready to integrate the “Belt and Road” initiative with Malaysia’s development strategies, take the Kuantan industrial park, the Malacca seaside industrial park and others as platforms to forge exemplary projects in production capacity cooperation and facilitate bilateral trade exchanges. We will advance cooperation in high-speed rail, railways and other fields to aid regional connectivity. Both countries should upgrade finance cooperation and deepen cooperation in law enforcement, security and defense. China and Malaysia should expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and well operate Xiamen University Malaysia Campus to consolidate the public opinion foundation of China-Malaysia relations. Li Keqiang stressed that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations, and the ASEAN will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. Firmly supporting the construction of the ASEAN community and its central role in regional cooperation, China is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Malaysia to push for in-depth development of China-ASEAN relations and safeguard regional peace and stability. Najib Razak said that Malaysia and China are trustworthy friends. Since the establishment of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, both sides have taken active and effective measures and obtained encouraging outcomes from cooperation in all fields. At present, Malaysia-China relations are at the best level in history, and projects including the Kuantan industrial park and the Malacca seaside industrial park are undergoing smooth progress. The Malaysian side is willing to make continuous efforts with China to strengthen cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, railway construction, finance, education and defense, so as to elevate Malaysia-China relations to new levels. Malaysia stands ready to actively boost the development of ASEAN-China relations and jointly well build regional development. Prior to the talks, Li Keqiang held a welcoming ceremony for Najib Razak at the square outside the East Gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Zhengwei and others were present. After the talks, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Najib Razak jointly witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements covering agriculture, education, quality inspection, tax, customs, defense and other fields. |
