2016-07-24 10:01

On July 24, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore in Vientiane, Laos.

Wang Yi said that the relationship between China and the ASEAN maintains sound development in general, but in the meantime it also faces various challenges, and all parties need to make joint efforts to safeguard the overall situation of China-ASEAN relations. Singapore is the country coordinator of China-ASEAN relations. China stands ready to work with Singapore as well as other ASEAN countries to eliminate various internal and external interference and firmly uphold the correct direction of the development of China-ASEAN relations. The two sides should enhance political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, safeguard regional stability and jointly build a closer community of common destiny.

Vivian Balakrishnan said that the overall ASEAN-China relations maintain a positive trend. Although there are challenges, disputes shouldn't and won't be allowed to hinder the development of bilateral relations. The two sides should, through dialogue and cooperation, reach consensus and agreements and exhibit the strength of ASEAN-China relations. Singapore is willing to make joint efforts with China to push current meeting for positive progress and send to the outside a positive signal of deepening cooperation between the ASEAN and China.
