AMBASSADOR ZOU XIAOLI MEETS WITH THE MAYOR OF ELEFSINA GEORGE TSOUKALA

On November the 25th, 2016,  Chinese Ambassador Zou Xiaoli met at the Embassy with the Mayor of Elefsina George Tsoukalas.

Mr. Tsoukalas briefed the Ambassador on the successful nomination of Elefsina as the European Capital of Culture for 2021, while he mentioned that Elefsina is a town with long history and great culture, the birthplace of the famous ancient Greek tragedian Aeschylus and host of the "Aisxylia Festival". Over the last 3 years, Chinese theatrical groups have participated at "Aisxylia Festival", showing to the Greek people the Chinese drama art and thus promoting the mutual understanding and friendship between the two people. The Mayor also mentioned that Elefsina considers China as her best friend and that it would be an honor for Elefsina to become the Gate of the Chinese civilization to Europe.

Ambassador Zou congratulated Mayor Tsoukalas for the successful nomination of his town as the European Capital of Culture 2021. He mentioned that 2017 will be the "Year of China-Greece Cultural Exchanges and Cooperation in the Cultural Industry", which will be a unique chance to deepen the cooperation between Elefsina and China. Last November, the 1rst China-Greece City Forum was conducted with success and Ambassador Zou wished that, with this Forum as a platform, Elefsina will manage to cooperate with Municipalities of China and become a magnificent European Capital of Culture.
